April 27: Lunch & Learn on the Metaverse

Topic: The Metaverse: A New World of Opportunities
Presented by Dr. Cesare Wright, Director of Digital Media Initiatives at University of St. Thomas

The Metaverse, a term coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel “Snow Crash”, refers to a collective virtual shared space that is completely immersive and interactive.  In this session, we will provide an introduction to the Metaverse, exploring its potential impact on various aspects of our daily lives. We will discuss how the Metaverse is expected to transform business, commerce, education, social engagement, policy, and global politics.

“The interesting thing about the metaverse is that it is essentially an interconnected virtual universe… It is taking our physical reality, digitizing it, and putting it into an experience within a digital environment. It can connect you to everybody else out there who is doing the same thing!” – Dr. Cesare Wright
